Chris van Veelen, BAM:

Whilst constructing a level crossing in Leeuwarden, it became apparent that the subsoil was not stable enough, resulting in subsidence during construction. Using the URETEK FloorLift® method, the slabs were quickly and neatly raised back to the correct height.

Chris van Veelen, a works planner at construction firm BAM, was present when URETEK set to work. He explains: “A number of slabs had subsided. We’ve called on URETEK before for similar problems. They’ve always been successful and caused minimal disruption, so it quickly became clear that we wanted to use their method here too.”

Impressive
“The situation was different this time, though, because we wanted to resolve the problem as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to road users,” Chris van Veelen continues. “So we couldn’t plan everything well in advance. Fortunately, URETEK were able to come that very same week to lift the six slabs. The drilling took the most effort; after that, it was done in no time. It was impressive to see how the slabs were lifted and returned to the correct height.”

A neat result
“We were worried that the lifting process might cause the freshly laid tarmac to crack or create bumps, but fortunately that wasn’t the case. There was only a minimal difference in height compared to the road surface, but we resolved that by cutting out a joint and refilling it. The whole thing looks neat and tidy again. We’re very pleased with URETEK’s swift action and the result!”
