Houtwerf BV in Zoeterwoude – a wholesaler and specialist in timber, sheet materials and parquet flooring – was faced with a subsiding warehouse floor. Completely underfilling the floor was not an option, but URETEK was not to be deterred. By applying the URETEK FloorLift® method to the most critical areas, the problem was ultimately resolved.
“We’ve owned the building we use for extra storage for a few years now,” explains Sjuul Tutuarima, logistics manager at Houtwerf. “We’d already noticed some movement in the subsoil, but when a forklift truck sank through the floor, we really had to take action. We discovered a hollow space beneath the floor and asked URETEK for help.”
A great alternative
“URETEK investigated the subsoil and found that the hollow space covered almost the entire floor area. They could have filled the entire space and raised the floor. But the cost involved was out of proportion to the value of the property. Fortunately, the team at URETEK were very cooperative, which enabled us to come up with a good alternative: raising the sunken areas and underfilling the floor at a few critical points.”

As this is peat soil that continues to subside, URETEK may need to return in a few years’ time to rectify any new subsidence that has occurred. But for now, the problem has been properly resolved.
