De Koe Community Centre in Breda
It’s not much fun dancing on a sloping floor. That’s why URETEK was called in to reinforce the partially subsided floor of the function room at De Koe community centre. Thanks to the URETEK FloorLift® method, further subsidence has been prevented.
“The concrete floor of the function room had subsided in places, by four to five centimetres in some areas,” explains Dik Verkijk, site manager at Aannemersbedrijf Jaap Rasenberg. “The cause was probably a leak from an underground pipe. Whilst repairing the leak, we noticed that the subsoil had settled and had lost some of its load-bearing capacity; a significant void had formed. The municipality of Breda – owner of the community centre – asked us if we had a solution to prevent further subsidence. We immediately thought of URETEK.”
Excellent support
“We’ve had good experiences with URETEK in the past,” continues Dik Verkijk. “With an excellent result and hardly any damage – that’s what we were looking for. So we asked whether URETEK could also provide support here. They could! Raising the floor would also have been possible, but there was a risk that some of the floor tiles would be damaged. As these are no longer available, we would have had to replace all the tiles – around 200 square metres in total. That is why we chose to improve only the subfloor by filling the hollow space, thereby safeguarding the listed building.”
Quick and cost-effective
“The team from URETEK came on a Saturday,” continues Dik Verkijk. “They carefully drilled holes at the intersections of the joints, ensuring that all the tiles remained intact. It was simply a matter of re-grouting them and the job was done. A quick and neat solution that saved a considerable amount of money. We’re delighted with the result, as is Breda City Council.”
