Walking through a shop with obstacles in the way? Not if HEMA in Ommen has anything to do with it. A subsidence had caused the floorboards to become uneven. This posed a tripping hazard to shoppers. An undesirable situation in which the client wanted to take precautionary measures in good time. URETEK came to the rescue.
The reinforced concrete floor of the HEMA on Brugstraat in Ommen has subsided in places. The ground beneath the foundations consists of sandy soil. This makes the subsoil prone to settlement. This subsidence is the cause of uneven floorboards at the points where they meet the adjoining foundation beams.
Cracked shop floor
The consequences of this are evident in the shop floor, which shows cracks and uneven sections. This could be dangerous for shoppers. In the long term, this damage would only worsen. It was clear that action had to be taken whilst minimising shop closure time as much as possible.
Solution
URETEK drew up an action plan to address the situation. It was decided to underfill and lift the concrete floor along the foundation beam using the URETEK FloorLift® method. This was supplemented with additional injections at approximately one metre below floor level. This restored the floor’s load-bearing capacity. The area to be treated covered approximately 68 m² with a maximum settlement of 22 millimetres.
Invisible repair methods
Traditional solutions cause disruption because floors have to be broken open or because premises are inaccessible. This is disastrous for a shop like HEMA. To minimise disruption, the work was scheduled for early on Monday morning. As a result, 80 per cent of the drilling work had already been completed before the shop opened. During the repair, the injections were placed beneath the shop shelving wherever possible. This prevents any visible damage. The floor was fully repaired by URETEK, commissioned by Bouwbedrijf Welleweerd from Rheeze, within a single working day. Visitors to HEMA can now shop without a care in the world.
