Preventative grouting to protect neighbouring buildings from construction damage
A densely built-up area combined with relatively soft ground can cause serious problems during construction work. In particular, driving and extracting sheet piling in the immediate vicinity of existing buildings is risky. This also applies to dewatering measures designed to keep the excavation pit dry. The lowered groundwater level can cause the soil to settle, leading to subsidence of surrounding foundations. The greatest risk occurs when the sheet piles are removed, due to soil relaxation. It is therefore essential to take the appropriate precautionary measures in such situations.
Soil stabilisation using injection technology
URETEK has developed an effective injection technique to prevent such damage. This involves fitting the affected façade and foundations with long injection lances on the outside. As soon as the sheet piles are pulled out, a URETEK team is on hand to simultaneously stabilise the ground beneath the building structure using our highly expansive synthetic resins. These prevent the formation of voids and the displacement of soil layers.
Lightning-fast and effective
Our expansion resins react within seconds and are highly expansive and load-bearing. This new preventive technique causes little or no disruption to the surrounding area. The injection method prevents not only structural but also economic damage, as the buildings being treated can remain in use at all times.
Please note
If excavation is to take place at the site following injection – for example, during the construction of a multi-storey car park – the use of URETEK expansion resins is not suitable, as they cannot be excavated.
