Part of the reinforced concrete floor at the vegetable auction in Mechelen, Belgium, had become detached from the subfloor. Some sections of the floor moved when you walked or drove over them, part of it had subsided and the edges were starting to crumble. The URETEK FloorLift® method provided the solution.
The shifting concrete section was having a detrimental effect on day-to-day operations. Tim Zwaenepoel, a construction consultant at Z Advies, was asked to find a solution. “I recommended calling in URETEK to stabilise the subsoil and raise the subsided sections back to the correct level,” he explains. “I was familiar with URETEK and the results of their method, and this seemed to me to be an ideal job for them.”
An exciting challenge
“Initially, URETEK tackled a 20-metre section as a trial, to see whether their method would provide a satisfactory solution. If the result is still good after a year, the rest of the approximately 300-metre-long concrete section will follow. For URETEK, it was a great challenge, as it involved a narrow, fixed section flanked by large, loose slabs. Naturally, it was not the intention that the central section should be lifted as well. The execution was therefore quite nerve-wracking, but went off without a hitch.”
Second project
“URETEK had set aside a day for the work, but after four hours the job was already done, with a virtually perfect result. I’m absolutely delighted and can now get started on repairing the damage, so that the floor will soon look nice and smooth again. My client is also very pleased. The quote for a second job at the same company has already been approved, so URETEK will be back at work here soon!”
