At Twin Filter in Zaandam, there are 6-metre-high warehouse racking units on the factory floor. These can only remain in safe use if they are standing on a level surface. If the factory floor on which they stand subsides, the racks will become out of plumb and can no longer remain in use.
In total, the company was unable to use approximately 400 m² of warehouse space, which represents a significant financial loss. An additional (familiar) problem: the 15 cm thick concrete floor has subsided unevenly, by up to 5 cm in places. The floor is situated on a sand bed, and the ground in Zaandam and the surrounding area is unstable. This developer and manufacturer of filter systems for the gas and liquids industry has faced this ground instability before. Ten years ago, part of the factory floor had also subsided, and the repair contract was awarded to URETEK at the time.
Facility Manager Ton Verwer of Twin Filter: ‘Last time, the company managed to resolve our problems quickly and at a relatively low cost. That’s why we’ve turned to URETEK again.’
Our FloorLift® method is particularly well-suited to problems such as this. There is no need to clear the work floor; our injections correct the subsidence with extreme precision and speed. The floor can be put back into use straight away. Should Twin Filter ever face floor subsidence again in the future, they’ll know who to turn to for a quick, safe and cost-effective repair.
We naturally hope for Twin Filter’s sake that it won’t be necessary, but we know the ground around Zaandam all too well – and that’s not a good sign, really…. On the other hand, a pile-supported floor is so much more expensive to install that it’s probably more cost-effective to call us in every few years. It’s a matter of smart cost-benefit analysis!
