The concrete floor of the DYKA showroom – DYKA being a manufacturer of pipework systems – in Leeuwarden had subsided. The subsidence was particularly noticeable at the entrance to the building. You only get one chance to make a good first impression. It was up to URETEK to rectify the cause of the damage to the entrance and leave behind a smooth, level floor!
DYKA has been a manufacturer of plastic pipework systems for over 50 years, supplying the housing, civil engineering, road construction and hydraulic engineering sectors, amongst others. DYKA has several branches in the Netherlands. The subsidence of the reinforced concrete floor at the Leeuwarden branch was caused by settlement of the subsoil. This was due to a variable composition of the underlying soil combined with fluctuating groundwater levels.
Lack of bearing capacity
When soft soil layers subside, the concrete floor no longer has the required bearing capacity, causing it to subside. In the case of DYKA, this became apparent when large cracks and differences in level became visible in the floor above. The subsidence amounted to 20 millimetres. Following an assessment by one of our technical advisers, it was decided to partially underfill and lift the concrete floor. The total area treated was 28 m² out of a total of over 400 m².
Lifting concrete floors
To restore the floor’s load-bearing capacity, URETEK applies the FloorLift® method. Holes were drilled into the floor at various points according to a predetermined pattern. Injection pipes are then inserted into these holes. The expansion resin is injected through these pipes. This resin fills the existing voids and lifts the floor millimetre by millimetre back to its original level.
Within a single day, the floor is repaired and can once again be walked on safely. The great thing about our method is that commercial premises do not need to be closed during the work. So DYKA was able to remain open as usual!
